THANH DAT AREA

You are standing in the second space called Thanh Dat, meaning Great Success. In front of you is the Khue Van Pavilion, and behind you is the Dai Trung gate. And for the first time at the Temple of Literature, only in the night experience program will you see the magical light of the Khue Star (Legs Mansion, one of the twenty-eight mansions of the Chinese constellations), representing literature and knowledge according to the ancients. This light illuminates the figures of a pair of carp surrounding a vase on the rooftop of the Dai Trung gate.

According to folk beliefs, under the feudal education system, which was deeply influenced by Confucianism, the success of each Confucian student is often compared to the image of "a carp turning into a dragon". According to legend, each carp must make the effort to swim against the current and pass three levels of waterfall and leap past the Longmen (Dragon Gate) to have a chance to become a dragon. The traditional image of the Vietnamese dragon was not only a symbol of royal power but the embodiment of noble values, the quintessence of knowledge that Confucian students could only achieve through the path of studying with a spirit of perseverance.
